Noonland · community and platform

Noonland is a community and a social network for people who want to face big changes together

No ads, no investors and no algorithm fighting for your attention. A place where people meet, talk, dream out loud and do things together

The main rule here is simple: a stranger is a possible friend. Everything else grew out of it

Free to join · you can simply read and look around

03 · How it is different

The difference is who it serves

An ordinary social network makes money on your attention, and everything about it serves that. Noonland is deliberately built differently: for conversation rather than for reach and influence

An ordinary social network:Makes money on your attention

Run by the founders and by voluntary support from members

An ordinary social network:The feed is tuned so that you don't leave

Feeds without hidden algorithms: only what the people you chose write

An ordinary social network:Arguments and outrage boost reach

No public like counters and no race for reactions

An ordinary social network:A stranger is a potential hater

A stranger is a potential friend

An ordinary social network:Bots and fakes are indistinguishable from people

People only. There are no AI companions and no AI characters here

An ordinary social network:The rules change quietly

The principles are published, the rules follow from them, and they are open to discussion

04 · Where we are going

Irreversible changes have already begun

The world is changing faster than we can understand it. Work, familiar supports, the ways we trust information, the picture of the world itself: all of it may change within our lifetime, and it is already happening. It cannot be stopped. But we can and must prepare

Change switches on an ancient mode in people, «us against them»: when things are frightening and unclear, it is easier to split the world into camps and appoint enemies. Networks built on reach and engagement amplify this. Trust shrinks and society splits

The easiest answer to such a time is cynicism: trust no one, the internet is not what it used to be, there is no point in trying. We believe that is wrong. We believe the way through change is together, and we are trying to build a new space for living for that

Surviving change is not enough. We want to build a life worth going through it for

  • 02Stay independentUnderstand what is going on, check sources and make decisions yourself
  • 03Hold on to each otherRelationships of trust and friendship are a support that does not depend on where technology turns

✦ Why «Noonland»

The name comes from the Noon Universe of the Strugatsky brothers: a future where people chose discovery, creation and each other. We don't promise a utopia. We want to build at least a small piece of such a world: a space where being human is easier and more interesting than being part of a crowd. Step by step, that is the next level of civilisation

05 · Who is inviting you

We have already seen twice how a familiar world disappears

Every time the world changed beyond recognition, it was people nearby who saved us, not technology or institutions. The third time we want to meet it prepared and not alone

  • 01The first time · the 90sThe state, the rules, money, the whole system collapsed in a matter of days. We learned to hold on to family and friends
  • 02The second time · the internetThe first social networks coincided with our first years in a new country, when it was especially lonely: no old friends, a foreign environment, a foreign language. The web gave us what we lacked most: conversations, shared undertakings and real friends, some of whom we are still friends with. Then, before our eyes, social networks turned into closed algorithms for spreading fakes, hate and hype in order to trade attention. A space meant for human conversation became an endless squabble over the news
  • 03The third time · AIIt is already here, and we use it. The risk is elsewhere: instead of real people we will more and more be offered convincing imitations, and telling them apart will get harder

Almost 25 years ago we moved to Europe from Kazakhstan, and we live with our children in Germany. For many years we ran a small hotel in Bavaria, so we know what a place people want to come back to is

We are not gathering an audience. We are building a place where we want to live ourselves, and we invite those who feel the same

Our story is in the manifesto →

06 · What it stands on

Trust that can defend itself

Any two people can become friends if they put in mutual effort and time. This is the starting point of how we see life, and the main rule follows from it: treat every person as a potential friend and act so that this possibility stays alive

Trust here is mutual. The first step is everyone's own choice, continuing requires a response. Boundaries are respected. A second chance is always possible, but it does not cancel responsibility

You don't have to share all our beliefs. You only have to follow the community's principles of conversation

  • 01Everyone can be friendsThe potential for friendship is universal, but it is always realised mutually: friendship is built by two
  • 02Free choiceEveryone chooses their own friends and the degree of closeness. Friendship cannot be forced or begged for
  • 03A second chanceWe try not to pass a final verdict on anyone. We try to keep the doors open
  • 04Overcoming fearReaching out to a stranger is a risk. We become stronger when we make the first step

The ethics here is built into the very design of the platform. There is no feed that pays to be heated up, and no metrics that would make it worth keeping you hooked

07 · An environment instead of appeals

The ethics is built into the platform

Philosophy alone is not enough. If values are not supported by the design of the environment, whatever is built on the opposite incentives wins. So the principles here are built into the rules and into the mechanics of the platform

    01

No single endless feedThree separate spaces: Journal, Dreams and Projects. Nothing here fights for your attention, and a pause is built into the architecture itself

    02

Support instead of likesA reaction here means «I'm with you». There are no public counters and no popularity indexes

    03

Support circles and privacy by defaultAround a dream or a project you can gather a trusted circle, and only what you decided to show goes out

    04

Living people onlyThere are no AI companions or characters here. AI only helps moderation: for example, it tells an author that a comment sounds harsh

    05

Boundaries are protectedThe rules forbid bullying and unsolicited criticism. A complaint is read by a human. You can stay silent and leave a circle without explanations

    06

No trade in attentionNo ads, no investors, no selling of data. Joining is free, you can leave at any time, and the project is run by the founders and by those who feel close to it

What already works and what is still planned, we honestly mark on the «How it works» page
